News from the Moms and Dads Associations

The Effingham Moms Club is planning a Moms and Daughters outing to attend the Carol Concert at the Krannert Center for Performing Arts on December 2. Other events in the works include a care package assembly party to send to students during finals and a basketball watch party at a local restaurant. If you are interested in joining the fun, please contact Cindy Eder at cjeder@consolidated.net.

Please urge your student to log on to the emergency system Web site at emergency.illinois.edu and enter their contact information. The Urbana-Champaign campus of the UI is launching a new emergency communication system that will alert students and faculty and staff members to crisis situations on campus through mass cell-phone text and e-mail messages. Each person can enter up to three e-mail addresses and two text message addresses. Users can change, add to or delete their contact information at any time. Learn More

The Dads Association will be awarding four $500 scholarships in January 2008. The application must be completed and returned by November 30, 2007.

November 26, 2007 -- Meals at Undergraduate Residence Halls resume with breakfast
November 26, 2007 -- Instruction resumes
December 7, 2007 -- Last day of instruction

McKinley Health Center Closed for Thanksgiving

McKinley Health Center will be closed on Thursday, November 22 and Friday, November 23. Acute Care and Pharmacy will be open Saturday, November 25th, 8:00am - 4:30pm.

New Online Emergency Phone Location Map

The Division of Public Safety has added an online Emergency Phone location map. This map shows in detail the location of all exterior Emergency Phones. The map is split into zones and shows the locations of the Emergency Phones down to the street level.

Deadline for Cozad Intent to Compete Forms

The Intent to Compete application deadline is 11:59 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2007, for the V. Dale Cozad Business Plan Competition, hosted by the Technology Entrepreneur Center. Students Interested in entering this year's competition may contact Rhiannon Clifton, 244-3124, rclifton@uiuc.edu.

Holonyak Historical Marker Unveiled

ECE Professor Nick Holonyak Jr. was recognized this fall with a University historical marker honoring him and his invention of the quantum-well laser. The plaque is one of only about 40 installed across the expansive Illinois campus to serve as a tribute to noteworthy individuals and their achievements. The Holonyak marker is located just north of Everitt Lab at the site of the old Electrical Engineering Research Laboratory (EERL) on the Bardeen Quadrangle. Full Story
