News from the Moms and Dads AssociationsThe deadline to enter this year's Tuition Drawing for 1st prize of two semesters in-state tuition and 2nd prize of one semester in-state tuition is approaching quickly. Your Tuition Tickets must be received by November 16th, 2007. The drawing will be held on November 17th at the home football game vs. Northwestern.Please urge your student to log on to the emergency system Web site at emergency.illinois.edu and enter their contact information. The Urbana-Champaign campus of the UI is launching a new emergency communication system that will alert students and faculty and staff members to crisis situations on campus through mass cell-phone text and e-mail messages. Each person can enter up to three e-mail addresses and two text message addresses. Users can change, add to or delete their contact information at any time. The event tests cadets' physical and mental endurance over a three-day period as teams contend for the honor of defeating all opposition in this contest of wits, skill, and strength. Eighteen universities took part in the competition including Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, Michigan, and Michigan State in the Big Ten Conference. Full StoryU of I Students Take Robotic Harvesting System on the RoadAutomated harvesting is considered science fantasy by some farmers, but students at the University of Illinois have developed a small-scale harvesting model that could help bring fantasy one step closer to reality. Students in the Off-Road Equipment Management class in the department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ABE) have developed an autonomous harvester-to-bin system that uses wireless communication to synchronize the action between a harvester and an unloader. The team recently took their project to the robotics demonstration at the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers Annual International Meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
