News from the Mothers and Dads AssociationsPlease urge your student to log on to the emergency system Web site at emergency.illinois.edu and enter their contact information. The Urbana-Champaign campus of the UI is launching a new emergency communication system that will alert students and faculty and staff members to crisis situations on campus through mass cell-phone text and e-mail messages. Each person can enter up to three e-mail addresses and two text message addresses. Users can change, add to or delete their contact information at any time. More information about the redesign process, including methodology, production schedule, and data analysis may be found here.Campus Town Hall Meeting - Inclusive IllinoisIn keeping with the spirit of Inclusive Illinois, Student Affairs is hosting a Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, October 23 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Courtyard Cafe of the Illini Union. The purpose of this Town Hall Meeting is to examine stereotype themed parties, racial epithets and hate speech in the context of our institutional values and the First Amendment. The program will include insights from expert panelists as well as open discussion about questions such as: Why do stereotype themed parties and other intolerant behavior occur at UIUC? What is their impact on our community? What can the administration do in response? What can students do?Homecoming 2007Homecoming 2007 offically kicks off on Friday, Oct. 19, at 5:30 p.m. with the last home game for the Illini soccer team. Other events include Writers Come Home featuring best-selling alumna author Jacquelyn Mitchard '71, the annual student-organized Parade and Pep Rally, Illinois vs. Ball State football, and a fabulous Post-Game Reception for all at the Alice Campbell Alumni Center. The films, both features and documentaries, cover a wide range of subject areas in the humanities and sciences.Multicultural Career FairThe Office of Minority Student Affairs (OMSA) invites undergraduate students from all majors to participate in the fall Multicultural Career Fair. The Multicultural Career Fair is a two day long event hosted and sponsored by the Office of Minority Student Affairs. The Career Fair Networking (Oct. 15) and Career Fair Interviewing (Oct 16) combine students seeking professional and enriching work experience with employers who are looking to fill permanent employment and internship positions. The Multicultural Career Fair is a wonderful opportunity for students from all undergraduate levels to connect with employers who make diversifying their workforce a priority. There will be tournaments for both Guitar Hero and DDR. There also will be an interactive talk with UIUC gaming researcher Dmitri Williams on online social connections. Events will begin at 7pm. Students can bring their own games to hook up to our TVs, or play games on the library consoles (XBox260, PS2, etc.). The change is part of an initiative that aims to heighten perceptions of the Illinois brand among key audiences, nationally and internationally, and broaden opportunities for education, research and public engagement. Over the next several years, the domain name for the Urbana campus – uiuc.edu – will be phased out, and all campus e-mail addresses and Web pages will be transferred to the domain name illinois.edu.
