Spanish-speaking volunteers needed to participate in Latino Family Visit Day on September 30th. Parents will be needed at various times throughout the day beginning at 8:30am and ending around 4pm. Please contact Becki Galardy for more information at uofiparents@ad.uiuc.edu or (217) 333-7063

Join the Dads Association as they celebrate their 85th year in service during the University of Illinois' Dads Weekend activities. The Association will begin the weekend on Friday, Oct. 5 with a reception at 5 pm in the South Lounge of the Illini Union and the Annual Banquet at 5:30 pm in the Illini Rooms of the Illini Union. Our guest speaker this year will be Coach Bruce Weber! The Dads Association will recognize the Library Award winners, the Certificate of Merit recipients and King Dad 2007 will be crowned. County Representatives serve as a resource for other Illini parents in their areas and meet other Illini parents from all over the country. Become a County Representative! If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity email the Parent Programs Office at uofiparents@ad.uiuc.edu or contact a County Representative from your area.

The 2007 Conference for Illini Parents well be held on Sept. 15 in Illini Room A located in the Illini Union. The Conference will begin at 8:30 am and wrap-up at 1:00 pm. We want to allow parents plenty of time in the afternoon to catch up with their students and explore campus. Pre-registration is required.

Nominations for the Board of Directors of the Dads Association are now being accepted. Elections will be held during Dads Weekend on October 6th at the breakfast meeting. Officers include a president, three vice-presidents, a treasurer and directors.

The Dads Association will be awarding four $500 scholarships in January 2008. The application must be completed and returned by November 30, 2007.

Library Fee Supports Expanded Library Hours

Thanks to the recent passage of the Library Fee, students will be able to spend more time in the library than ever before. Effective August 23, 2007, the Undergraduate and Grainger Engineering Libraries will offer extended hours.

CITES Software WebStore Can Help Plan Course Software Needs

To ensure students receive the software required for their courses as quickly as possible, let the CITES Software WebStore coordinate software distribution for the new semester. Contact webstore@uiuc.edu to create customized arrangements for course software needs.

Study Abroad Fair

Students and parents are welcome to stop by the Study Abroad Fair being held on September 4, to learn about study abroad opportunities as well as a handful of volunteer/service/internship and post-graduation work abroad opportunities. This event is open to all majors and all levels of study. At the Fair, you will be able to talk with program representatives and students who have already studied abroad.

The Office of Volunteer Programs is hosting the Volunteer Fair for interested students on September 7 in the Illini Union.

Engineering Employment Expo

The Fall Engineering Employment Expo is being held on September 10-12 from 9 AM - 4 PM.

Mock Interviews Offered by the Career Center

The Mock Interview Program provides undergraduates, graduates, and alumni a chance to tweak interviewing skills. Sign up for a practice phone interview or a one-on-one digitally recorded coaching session. Mock Interviews may be used prior to any form of interview including graduate/health school, and job interviews. Mock Interviews will be offered starting on September 10.

Ramadan Dining Information

Ramadan is the ninth month of the lunar calendar. During this month, all willing able-bodied Muslims may elect to fast between sunrise and sunset. Two options are available to students.

Residents May Request Maintenance or Repair for Their Room Online

iService Desk is used to request all routine maintenance/repair work and cleaning requests. iService attempts to respond to all requests within 1-3 working days. If your student have not seen a response in 4 days, please have them contact Facilities Operations by e-mail rather than submit another work request.

Applications to the College of Communications are Being Accepted

Current University of Illinois students who by the end of the fall semester will have completed at least one year on the Urbana-Champaign campus and will have earned at least 30 but not more than 90 credit hours may apply between now and 3 p.m., Sept. 21, to join the College starting in the spring 2008 semester.

Information on Transferring to Applied Health Sciences

Students thinking about transferring into AHS are welcome to come to a Fall 2007 ICT interest meeting and learn about the application and transfer process for Kinesiology, Community Health, Recreation, Sport and Tourism, and Speech and Hearing Science.

ECS Looking for Student Help

Engineering Career Services is looking for a couple of great students for positions as Career Services Student Associates. Positions are paid and hours are flexible. Applications Being Accepted for Special Undergraduate Research on the Environment

The Environmental Council seeks students wishing to explore their personal environmental interests, from the study of microbes in hot springs to learning about global climate change, environmental ethics or campus sustainability. Selected students receive up to $2,000 in grant money, work with a faculty advisor, and use of state of the art laboratories and research facilities.

Environmental Research for Freshman and Sophomores

Freshmen and sophomores from 2006-07 are encouraged to apply by October 15, 2007 for a special collaborative environmental research initiative funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The broad objective is to advance interdisciplinary research skills among environmental program undergraduates while building opportunities for scholarly exchange among students.

Institute of Aviation Returns to Oshkosh

The 2007 Oshkosh Air Show was very well attended with the Institute of Aviation making an appearance after missing the last few years.

AHS Fall Welcome

The College of Applied Health Sciences Fall Welcome event will be held on the lawn outside of Freer Hall. Students can learn about AHS student organizations, mingle with Dean's Office staff and faculty, meet fellow classmates and chat with advisors by participating in a scavenger hunt. Lawn games, food and prizes will be available for participants. AHS freshmen and transfers are welcome!

Gilman International Scholarship Program

The Gilman International Scholarship Program provides awards of up to $5,000 for U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad for up to one academic year. The program aims to diversify the kinds of student who study abroad and the countries and regions where they go.

DRES, 26-Pack Bus Reroute Until Further Notice

The 26-pack shuttle bus that stopped right across Oak Street from DRES has had its route altered.

Results of Fourth Annual LEAD Program are Outstanding

Now in its fourth year, the University of Illinois College of Business is one of twelve esteemed consortium universities chosen to participate in the Leadership and Development (LEAD) program. In July 2007, 30 rising seniors graduated from the three-week intensive program. LEAD is an opportunity to attract African Americans, Hispanic and Native Americans who enroll as undergraduates in the College of Business. There are currently 27 LEAD students enrolled as freshmen, sophomores, and juniors at Illinois. Full Story

The Class of 2011 Receives a Hearty Welcome

College of Business faculty and staff, upper classman and corporate sponsors alike rolled out the red carpet for this year’s 560 College of Business incoming freshmen and new transfer students. “With a full roster of activities that include many first-of-its-kind events, the Class of 2011 can’t help but feel welcome” said Victor Mullins, associate dean for Undergraduate Affairs. Wall to Wall Guitar Festival

The second biennial Wall to Wall Guitar Festival is a three-day, nearly 'round-the-clock mix of over 40 guitarists and scores of their musical collaborators. The Wall to Wall Guitar Festival, Take Two, boasts incredibly diverse musicians, from as close as Krannert's Central Illinois backdoor all the way to the deep south, Hawaii, and beyond. International artists taking part call places like India, Scotland, Spain, France, and Iraq home, but September 13-15, they'll all reside in this teeming guitar bazaar filled with uncommon collaborations, unbelievable legends, and undeniable energy.
