News from the Mothers and Dads Associations Important Dates Spring 2007 Dean’s List Room Assignments, Available Online Move-In Day Map Available Construction Closes McKinley Parking Lot Department of Advertising Offers Study Abroad Options Student Speakers from DRES Needed 2007-2008 Season on Sale at Krannert Center Illinois in the News News from the Mothers and Dads AssociationsJoin the Dads Association as they celebrate their 85th year in service during the University of Illinois' Dads Weekend activities. The Association will begin the weekend on Friday, Oct. 5 with a reception at 5 pm in the South Lounge of the Illini Union and the Annual Banquet at 5:30 pm in the Illini Rooms of the Illini Union. The Dads Association will recognize the Library Award winners, the Certificate of Merit recipients and King Dad 2007 will be crowned. Important DatesAugust 2, 2007 -- (12 p.m.) Instruction Ends, Summer Session IIAugust 2, 2007 -- (1 p.m.) Reading Day August 3, 2007 -- Final Exams Begin August 4, 2007 -- Final Exams End Spring 2007 Dean’s ListDean’s lists for the 2007 spring semester have been announced by eight colleges and another academic unit at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dean’s list eligibility is limited to the top 20 percent of a student’s college class or curriculum. To be eligible for the Dean’s list recognition, students must complete at least 14 academic semester hours taken for letter grade.Room Assignments, Available OnlineRoom assignments for undergraduate and graduate upper division residence halls will be available online beginning July 24. Students will receive an email in their UIUC account with instructions on how to log in and view their assignment. Your student’s assignment will contain information about their room, roommate(s), meal plan, and more.Move-In Day Map AvailableIn order to keep Move-In Day as organized as possible, the Division of Housing has provided a map for residents to follow. Students and families need to follow the traffic patterns on Saturday, August 18th to ensure that all students are able to move in as quickly as possible.Construction Closes McKinley Parking LotOn Tuesday July 17th, metered parking will temporarily be relocated to the southwest end of the McKinley lot. To access these spaces, students must enter through the south drive. On Monday July 16th, students may park in any rental spaces in lot F-11 unless it is designated as 24-hour rental. Except for handicapped parking and a very limited number of metered spots, there is no parking at McKinley Health Center until August. If students are driving, they should plan to park in an alternate parking area and allow themselves adequate walking time to make their appointment.Department of Advertising Offers Study Abroad OptionsThe Department of Advertising offers four options for students who want to study abroad during the 2007-2008 school year. Students can explore the people and cultures of England, France, Ireland and the Dominican Republic while studying and earning college credit. Interested students should see their academic advisor.Student Speakers from DRES NeededProf. Diane Smith, an instructor who teaches REHAB 402, Medical Aspects of Disability, is looking for students from DRES to come speak to her class. She is looking for volunteers with a spinal cord injury, with CP, visual disabilities, speech, language and hearing disabilities, and orthopedic conditions.2007-2008 Season on Sale at Krannert CenterIt's here, the chance to experience the 2007-08 season at Krannert Center. Lewis, the Hans Thurnauer Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and Willett Faculty Scholar of Engineering at Illinois, has been named director of the Frederick Seitz Materials Research Laboratory (MRL). “I am very pleased that Professor Lewis has accepted the appointment as director for MRL,” stated Ilesanmi Adesida, dean of the College of Engineering. “She has done an exemplary job as interim director, and is eminently qualified to serve as director.
