Pictures from Moms Weekend are now available for viewing at www.CUphotog.com. Click on “college”, then click “University of Illinois”, then click “Mothers Association” from the list. The password is ILMOMS07 and there will be 2 events to choose from.

Student Reminder: Remind your student to keep their contact information up-to-date in order for them to receive important information from the University. It is also important they check their University issued email account on a regular basis.

Office of Campus Emergency Planning

The Office of Campus Emergency Planning is responsible for developing a comprehensive and coordinated approach to emergency preparedness and response on the Urbana Campus. The purpose is to assure that the University is in compliance with national incident management protocols for emergency management when responding to campus emergencies, natural disasters, utility outages, or possible acts of domestic or international terrorism. Commencement Ceremony tickets available

Free tickets for the Campuswide Commencement Ceremony at Assembly Hall are available through Friday, May 11 to all students on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no limit on the number of tickets you may request; however, please take only as many as you will actually use.

If you plan on attending your student’s college or program ceremony, please view their Web site for more information about tickets and other details.

Gradfest 2007

All University of Illinois graduates and their families are welcome to attend Gradfest 2007 at the Alice Campbell Alumni Center. Speak with top campus administrators, meet members of the University of Illinois Alumni Association Board of Directors and learn how to join one of the many Illini Clubs throughout the country.

McKinley coverage vs. Student Health Insurance – FAQ

The McKinley Student Advisory Board has developed a table that explains the differences between McKinley coverage, Student Health Insurance, and Non-University Health Insurance.

Bicycle Impounding

Facilities & Services, Parking Department will impound all bicycles parked in residence hall bicycle racks on May 29, 2007. Bicycles will be held for 30 days. After this time, unclaimed bicycles will be sold at public auction. In addition, all bicycles attached to all other UIUC bike racks that appear to be abandoned or in a condition of disrepair will be impounded. These bicycles will also be sold at public auction.

India Night

The Indian Student Association presents an evening of Indian cultural performances including singing, skits, dances, and videos during their annual event, India Night.

Undergrad Hourly Communications Assistant Position

A communications assistant position is available in Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant, a program that provides information on a number of Great Lakes environmental issues. This on-campus position is available through the 2007-08 school year and may continue into future years. Student will be responsible for assisting in general office duties, doing Internet research, distributing information in response to public requests, and sending out correspondences.

2007 I-Guides

Housing is recruiting students I-Guides for move-in day 2007. Each year I-Guides wearing orange shirts help students and families move their belongings into their dorm. Interested students can find more information on the Housing Web site.

CITES Help Desk Live Chat

The CITES Help Desk invites faculty, staff, and students to try its new Live Chat feature. Simply click the Live Help Chat button on the CITES Web site to chat with a Help Desk consultant. Consultants also can open a secure remote support session to help fix problems on computers or call back to help with in-depth issues.

Brain Awareness Day

Students, faculty members and postdoctoral researchers from the Neuroscience Program take a break from the lab to share their excitement and knowledge of brains with the public from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday (April 29). Interactive exhibits and demonstrations, art contest, brain stories, and lots of fun!

New version available: Web publishing wizard for Microsoft Office

Version 2.2.2 of the Illinois Accessible Web Publishing Wizard for Microsoft Office is now available for download. U. of I. faculty and staff members and students may download the Wizard for free from the CITES Web store.

Bevier Cafe Too opens in IGB

Bevier Cafe expands to a second location – Bevier Cafe Too – in the southwest corner of the lower level of the new IGB building, next to the Morrow Plots. Bevier Cafe Too, a student-operated learning cafe, offers gourment coffee drinks, snacks, light lunch items and more. Bevier Cafe Too is open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Petstravaganza

Join U of I students and local organizations for a free family friendly celebration of our animal companions on April 28 (Saturday) at the U of I Stock Pavilion, 1402 W. Pennsylvania, Urbana, from 9am. To 4 pm.

School of Art and Design: Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition

The works of over one hundred Bachelor of Fine Arts graduates in this third annual exhibition display a broad range of art and design studio practices that illustrate new and established technologies in material and virtual realms. Participating students specialize in crafts, graphic design, industrial design, painting, sculpture, and photography.

Dining Closing Times

As the school year comes to a close Specialty Restaurants are planning for their last day of service for the 2006-2007 school year. The last day for all dining services will be after lunch on Friday, May 11.

Applications for cartoonists and columnists

The Daily Illini will be hiring columnists and editorial cartoonists for the Fall 2007 semester. Students, who are opinionated and write well, can complete the application and send it to diopinions@gmail.com or drop it off at the Illini Media Building at 512 E. Green Street. All applications will be due by the end of finals week (Saturday May 12th). Applicants will be judged on the quality of their submissions and not on their political persuasions. The successful applicants will be contacted over summer break.

A Minute with Kris Fitzpatrick

Krystal Fitzpatrick is the interim chief of police for the University of Illinois and also the interim executive director of public safety, the campus unit that oversees the Office of Campus Emergency Planning, and Campus Risk Management. A member of the U. of I. Police Department since 1977, Fitzpatrick has been on the campus emergency operations committee since 1995. Full Story

Students become micro-lenders, assisting entrepreneurs around world

University of Illinois students who enrolled in Bruce Wicks’ recreation, sport and tourism course on entrepreneurism this semester did so thinking they would be learning how to create a business plan and finance, begin and market a small business. They are. But they’re also learning first-hand what it’s like to be on the other side of the business start-up process – as lenders. Full Story

U of I and NVIDIA Team Prepare Students for the Parallel Computing Revolution

Students at Illinois are part of a pioneering new class this semester that is preparing them to be leaders in the parallel computing revolution. In a unique arrangement, the class is co-taught by David Kirk, chief scientist at graphics-processing industry leader NVIDIA, and Wen-mei Hwu, the AMD Jerry Sanders Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Illinois. The course, which is titled ECE 498: Programming Massively Parallel Processors, is meeting a growing industry need for better prepared students, as parallel processors are quickly becoming the computing standard. URBANA - Faculty and staff of the University of Illinois College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) were honored today at the annual Funk Awards banquet. The Paul A. Funk Recognition Award, the College's top faculty honor, went to Michael E. Gray of the Department of Crop Sciences, Joseph H. Pleck of the Department of Human and Community Development, and Bryan A.
