News from the Moms and Dads Associations

The Parent Programs Office and The Career Center recently collaborated to provide parents with the interactive workshop, "College Students and Career Success: Where Do Parents Fit In?" The workshop is now available online for all parents to view. After loading the workshop, you will need to fast forward to 13:30.

The Moms and Dads Associations work in coordination with the Parent Programs Office at the University to provide parents with up-to-date information, resources, services and programs that will help them make the most out of their students' Illinois Experience. We also address the issues and concerns parents bring to us, with the University community and work to get the answers parents and families need. If you are interested in helping to support these efforts and programs that enrich the lives of all students at Illinois, please consider a gift to the University of Illinois Parents Fund. Moms Weekend is almost here! The whole family is invited to start the weekend on Friday, April 11th, with the Moms Weekend Kick-off Dinner featuring entertainment by the incredibly talented Girls Next Door. Parent Workshops will be offered, providing information about renting apartments, financial services, Dean of Students Office and more! Visit our Web site for registration and schedule information. Volunteers needed to help with the Moms Association Craft Table and Information Table. Volunteers will have the chance to meet other Illini Moms and learn more about the Association. We only ask that you give at least one hour of your time, click here for more information.

Please urge your student to log on to the emergency system Web site at emergency.illinois.edu and enter their contact information. The Urbana-Champaign campus of the UI has launched a new emergency communication system that will alert students and faculty and staff members to crisis situations on campus through mass cell-phone text and e-mail messages. Commencement Information

Commencement is an exciting time on every university campus. At Illinois, it acknowledges our students' academic achievements and reaffirms the continuing vitality of the campus. This web site provides important details and information regarding graduation and the activities scheduled for Commencement Weekend, May 10-11, 2008.

Academic Attire for Graduation

Your student must order their Graduation Attire by April 23, 2007. This can be done online or at the Author's Corner in the Illini Union Bookstore on the specified dates and times.

Summer Housing Available

If you student is staying on campus this summer and needs housing, they will be able to stay in one of the dorms on campus. For more information on eligibility and rates see the Housing web site. If your student wants to apply for summer housing, refer them to this web site.

Students can Apply for Student Computer Jobs for Next Fall

The Division of Housing is looking to fill undergraduate and graduate positions for Fall 2008. For full consideration, students need to submit an application prior to Friday April 4, 2008.

Pre-Law Day

Admissions officers from the University of Illinois College of Law will be sharing valuable insight regarding financial aid and the law school admissions process. A student panel comprised of current law students will provide guests with an accurate representation of daily life while in law school. For more information, click here.

College of Veterinary Medicine Open House

The state's only veterinary college--one of only 28 veterinary schools in the United States--will open its doors to the public on Saturday, April 5, from 9 am to 4 pm. This event is FREE annd open to the public. No registration is necessary.

College of Media (Formerly College of Communications) Launches New E-newsletter

The Media I is a new monthly College publication of news about alumni, students, faculty, events, programs and opportunities. The first issue publicizes a new course offered by the College, with the chance to study in New York City and Rome. Don't miss your monthly dose of College news -- check out The Media I on the first Friday of every month during the academic year.

Commencement ceremonies to Take Place May 11 at Illinois

The 137th commencement of the University of Illinois will be held in two ceremonies May 11 (Sunday) at the Assembly Hall, 1800 S. First. St., Champaign. The speaker at both ceremonies will be Mannie Jackson, a 1960 alumnus and chairman and owner of the Harlem Globetrotters. Full Story

"Superdense" Coding Gets Denser

The record for the most amount of information sent by a single photon has been broken by researchers at the University of Illinois. Using the direction of "wiggling" and "twisting" of a pair of hyper-entangled photons, they have beaten a fundamental limit on the channel capacity for dense coding with linear optics. Full Story
