News from the Moms and Dads Associations

The Moms and Dads Associations work in coordination with the Parent Programs Office at the University to provide parents with up-to-date information, resources, services and programs that will help them make the most out of their students' Illinois Experience. We also address the issues and concerns parents bring to us, with the University community and work to get the answers parents and families need. Moms Weekend is almost here! The whole family is invited to start the weekend on Friday, April 11th, with the Moms Weekend Kick-off Dinner featuring entertainment by the incredibly talented Girls Next Door. Parent Workshops will be offered, providing information about renting apartments, financial services, Dean of Students Office and more! Visit our Web site for registration and schedule information. Volunteers needed to help with the Moms Association Craft Table and Information Table. Volunteers will have the chance to meet other Illini Moms and learn more about the Association. We only ask that you give at least one hour of your time, click here for more information.

Please urge your student to log on to the emergency system Web site at emergency.illinois.edu and enter their contact information. The Urbana-Champaign campus of the UI has launched a new emergency communication system that will alert students and faculty and staff members to crisis situations on campus through mass cell-phone text and e-mail messages. Campus Committees

The University is currently accepting applications from students who wish to serve on a campus committee. The deadline for the application is March 28, 2008, 5:00pm. There are many available options for students including: Career Services Council, Wellness Committee, Public Safety Advisory Committee, etc.

U. OF I. Library Creates One-Stop Shopping Site Online for Health Information

Hunting for health information on the Web isn't always good for your health. Understanding the potholes and other problems, librarians at the University of Illinois have built a site that will allow users to bypass most Web-related symptoms: a single route to the best, most up-to-date health news available online. Librarians' Office Hours

Through April 16, librarians are available to provide students with one-on-one assistance in accessing and using library resources for a variety of course assignments. Librarians are available from 3:00pm - 5:00pm Mondays and from 6:00pm - 8:00pm Tuesdays in the Undergraduate Library.

Researching Career Opportunities

The Undergradate Library and Career Center invites students to come learn how to use online and library tools (LexisNexis, Marketline, Corporate Affiliations, etc.) to research organizations in order to tailor resumes and cover letters for internships and jobs, or to prepare for interviews.

University Housing Recruiting I-Guides for Move-In Day 2008

I-Guides in orange shirts are seen on campus on move-in day helping new students and their families move in. University Housing invites students to be a part of the I-Guide program.

University Housing's GO GREEN Spring 2008 Contest

Students are invited to submit their ideas for reducing energy usage at their residence hall, and win a grant to attend a prestigious conference in Fall 2008! All Go Green participants will receive an organic t-shirt.

International Education Week

The Office of International Programs and Studies (IPS) presents International Education Week 2008, "Seeing Eye to Eye Around the World." Come celebrate International Education March 28 - April 6 on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus by attending one of our many scheduled events.

English/Spanish Convo Table

Students are invited to come practice their English or Spanish in a comfortable setting.

2009 Solar Decathlon Seeking Participants

The University of Illinois has been accepted to participate in the 2009 Solar Decathlon, a Department of Energy competition for solar home building. The team is seeking engineering students to work on power, comfort conditioning, appliances, construction, simulation, design, and automation.

Jackson to be Commencement Speaker at U. of I. Graduation

Mannie Jackson, a 1960 alumnus of the University of Illinois and chairman and owner of the Harlem Globetrotters, will be the speaker at the 137th U. of I. Commencement on May 11. He will speak at the 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. ceremonies at Assembly Hall, 1800 S. First St., Champaign. Full Story

Award Honors U. of I. for Efforts in Campus Internationalization

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has been selected to receive the 2008 Senator Paul Simon Award for Campus Internationalization. The award, presented by NAFSA: Association of International Educators, recognizes the university for "outstanding and innovative efforts in campus internationalization." Full Story

Six Urbana campus faculty members have been recognized as University Scholars. The program recognizes excellence while helping to identify and retain the university's most talented teachers, scholars and researchers. Full Story

Illini Women Win Wheelchair Basketball Championship

The Division of Disability Resources and Educational Services sponsored the 34th Annual National Women's Wheelchair Basketball Tournament from February 28-March 1, 2008 in Huff Hall. On Saturday, March 1 the Illini women captured the national title again-for a third national title and their sixth in seven years. But the win was hardly routine. The University of Alabama tied the score with seven minutes left in the game. Illinois reclaimed the lead by one and watched in relief as Alabama missed a last shot at six seconds, sealing the Illlini victory. See the Daily Illini for photos and more about the game.
