Emergency Text-Messaging System

Please urge your student to log on to the emergency system Web site at emergency.illinois.edu and enter their contact information. The Urbana-Champaign campus of the UI has launched a new emergency communication system that will alert students and faculty and staff members to crisis situations on campus through mass cell-phone text and e-mail messages. News from the Moms and Dads Associations

The Parent Programs Office and The Career Center invite you to take part in this innovative live web cast presentation on Sunday February, 24th at 630pm. For more information and to learn how to register please click here.

Moms Weekend is almost here! This annual event takes place from April 11th to 13th. Bring the whole family for a visit to campus and be prepared for a memorable weekend with your student. Look for more information on the Moms and Dads Associations Web site.

Volunteers needed to help with the Moms Association Craft Table and Information Table. Volunteers will have the chance to meet other Illini Moms and learn more about the Association. We only ask that you give at least one hour of your time, click here for more information.

The Parent Programs Office is continually working to improve upon the resources provided to parents of Illinois students. Please take the time to fill out this anonymous survey to help us better understand the community we are serving. We appreciate your input.

The Moms and Dads Associations will be hosting the Illini Parent Spring Workshops on March 29, 2008. Scheduled speakers include the Student Health Insurance Office and the Public Safety Division will talk about the new Emergency Notification System. Experienced County Representatives and Moms Club members will talk about how to develop successful events and activities in your local area, and what you can do to stay involved with the Moms and Dads Associations and the University of Illinois. Registration is due Friday, March 14.

There are open positions on the Moms Association board just waiting for you! We have many fun committees.... Crafts and Sales, Move-in-Day Picnic, Summer Registration, Illini Parent 101 (formerly our fall conference), and Moms Weekend just to name a few, and we welcome you to get involved with just one. Come join other Illini Moms! The work is fun and does not require a huge time committment. Please help us keep our organization strong. Contact the Parent Program Office at 217-333-7063 or uofiparentsatad.uiuc.edu if interested and we can discuss details. We are slating now and will be electing new board members in April. We look forward to welcoming new Illini Moms!

The Moms Association at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is soliciting requests for funding proposals to be awarded in the Spring of 2008. The recipient will receive a monetary donation to be used to support the event and/or program submitted in the proposal.

The Moms and Dads Associations work in coordination with the Parent Programs Office at the University to provide parents with up-to-date information, resources, services and programs that will help them make the most out of their students’ Illinois Experience. We also address the issues and concerns parents bring to us, with the University community and work to get the answers parents and families need. If you are interested in helping to support these efforts and programs that enrich the lives of all students at Illinois, please consider a gift to the University of Illinois Parents Fund. Tuition Payment Due

Tuition and fee payments for the spring semester are due on February 22nd, 2008.

Fall 2007 Dean's List

Dean’s lists for the 2007 fall semester have been announced by eight colleges and another academic unit at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

August, October and December 2007 Graduates

The names of 2,344 December graduates have been announced by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, along with 1,089 August and 383 October 2007 graduates.

Parents Invited to View New University Home Page Design, Provide Feedback

View a mockup of the new design approved by the Chancellor and Provost for the home page of the University's Web site. Parents are encouraged to read about the data driving the design before viewing the mockup on a page that explains how the design reflects that data. All are encouraged to provide feedback by filling out an online survey. After the feedback has been gathered and analyzed, the design will be modified and presented again to the Chancellor and Provost for their approval.

Illini Union Board Calendar of Events

Check out some of fun activities the Illini Union Board has planned for the month of February. Students looking for an alternative to Unofficial or a fun night out with friends are invited to attend Illinites in Oz on February 29th from 9:00pm - 1:00am.

Architecture Career Expo

Career Expo 2008 will take place on February 28th and 29th. During these two days, employers from across the country representing the fields of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urban and Regional Planning will come to the University of Illinois campus to showcase their firms, build relationships with the University, and interview potential candidates for both summer and full-time employment. Career Expo is hosted by the School of Architecture and organized through the Undergraduate Office, Arthur L. Kaha, Associate Director; Carl G Lewis, Advisor; Rhonda Frank, Secretary.

Journalism Career Night

Journalism students are encouraged to meet alumni of the College who will talk about their experiences in the workplace. Small groups will gather after the panel discussion, and students will have a chance to meet the panelists and ask questions. Refreshments served.

Spring 2008 Multicultural Career Fair

The Office of Minority Student Affairs (OMSA) invites undergraduate students from all majors to participate in the Spring Multicultural Career Fair. This year's fair will be held on February 19th and 20th at the Illini Union, Rooms A, B, and C.

New Library Resources

Several new resources and services are available through the Library:

T-shirt Design Contest 2008

Students are invited to participate in this year's T-shirt Design Contest. Students can show their Illinois pride and share their cool and creative ideas that say University of Illinois is the place to be. Students could win a $100 gift certificate to Illini Union Bookstore, six shirts, and a basket of Illinois goodies. Second and third prizes are $50 and $25 IUB gift cards.

Engineers Week

Engineers Week has been celebrated since 1951 when it was started by the National Society of Professional Engineers. This academic year, thousands of engineers including students, teachers, and professionals will celebrate Engineers Week 2008 from February 17th to 23rd.

InnovationWeek at Illinois

To celebrate the rich history and culture of innovation at Illinois, the Technology Entrepreneur Center and the School of Art and Design with support from the Provost are sponsoring the first InnovationWeek from Feb. 19th to 29th.

College-Specific Study Abroad Info Sessions

The Study Abroad Office is holding College-Specific Study Abroad Info Sessions from February 26th to March 11th. Sessions will be available for students in Engineering and the Sciences, ACES, Business and Economics, Education, Communications, AHS, and FAA.

Rare Book and Manuscript Library to Close Temporarily

The Rare Book & Manuscript Library will close temporarily on February 25th, in order to counteract an outbreak of mold in its vault. The library is scheduled to reopen on May 5th.

U of I Students to Build Solar House

A team of University of Illinois students and faculty has been selected as one of 20 teams to compete in the 2009 Solar Decathlon. Each team will receive $100,000 start-up funds from the Department of Energy to design, build and operate an energy efficient, fully solar-powered home. Approximately $500,000 more will need to be raised in order for the U of I team to compete. Full Story

Mannie Jackson Gift to Provide Academic Support

Fighting Illini legend Mannie Jackson and his wife of 30 years, Cathy, along with their daughters Cassie and Candace, have made a gift of $2 million to create the Mannie L. Jackson Illinois Academic Enrichment and Leadership Program in the College of Applied Health Sciences on the Urbana-Champaign campus. Full Story

Illinois Professor to be Inducted into National Inventors Hall of Fame

Nick Holonyak Jr., a John Bardeen Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Physics at the University of Illinois, will be inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. Holonyak was selected for his invention of the first practical light emitting diode, in addition to the body of work on transistor and laser electronics generated over the span of his career (55+ years).
