Tips for Reserving Hotel Rooms on Special Event Weekends

Moms and Dads Weekends and Commencement are some of the busiest times of the year for local hotels, often booking one year in advance. Dads Weekend 2008 is Oct. 31-Nov. 2. Moms Weekend 2009 will be April 17-19, and Commencement 2009 will be on May 17. The following are some tips to keep in mind when looking for overnight accommodations

  • Make your reservations as soon as possible.
  • On special event weekends, many hotels require a minimum stay of two nights.
  • Ask if there is a waiting list and then put your name on it.
  • If you are still without a room, call hotels the week prior to the big weekend. There might be last minute cancellations.
  • Consider hotels in the surrounding areas, such as Rantoul, Danville or Bloomington.
  • If you are unable to find a room, talk with your student about staying with them.

When checking out of your hotel, remember to make reservations for next year!
